SUISUN CITY (KRON) — A baby, just 16-days-old, is in critical condition Tuesday morning after he was abandoned by his father Monday in the North Bay.

18-year-old Daniel Mitchell allegedly went shopping at a strip mall in Suisun City, dropped the infant off in the parking lot, and drove away.

Employees at a barber shop noticed the baby boy after the car drove off, and contacted police.

The article doesn’t state why the baby was in critical condition.....it was safely strapped in a car seat and almost immediately rescued from the parking lot....

The charges against the father also doesn’t reflect what happened to the baby.....

So why was the baby in critical condition? What injuries?

This article has a bit more information, although still not why the baby is in critical condition:

http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/7235379-181/man-accused-of-leaving-newborn?artslide=0

“The baby was airlifted to a children’s hospital as a precaution due to redness in one eye. Police say the infant is in critical but stable condition.”

I have never heard of “critical but stable condition”...

This is the same one I saw on the news, but it mentioned the Mega Smoke Shop.

Thankfully the baby was not taken to a British hospital. As a result, it may live.

I almost think that “critical” is the default condition for initial treatment and/or admittance to hospital, if there is any possibility of a crime related to the case. Then upgrades to the condition might be done later, but the police reports and initial hospital records will have that “critical” notation, whether applicable or not. JMO

I wonder if he shook the baby prior to the drop off?

“The baby was airlifted to a children’s hospital as a precaution due to redness in one eye.

Perhaps "redness in one eye" refers to indications of head injury.
