Famous Grouse is a cheap scotch. Scotch is one liquor that ages extremely well but tastes horrible until its aged for about 12 years at least. The regular famous grouse is probably 3-5 year average aging (it’s 6th highest volume scotch seller globally, Johnny walker is by far the highest volume scotch seller these days), if that. Unfortunately, that means for a bottle of scotch to taste decent its going to cost at least $40 with the better ones costing $75 to $300. If you want a good bottle (or glass) of scotch, try Macallan 12 (Glenlivit is another good brand that is cheaper than Macallan, not as good, but solid).

Glenlivit 12 is an excellent scotch when paired with a cigar. Good compliment on the smokey flavor. Glenlivit 18 is best taste/price point in the Glenlivit line. It’s a very good scotch at about the right price when you can find it for 80 a bottle.

Normally I prefer single malts like Lagavulin, Dalwhinnie, etc. I picked up an 18 year Dalwhinnie last month and it is excellent.

The only two blended I like are Chivas and Johnnie Walker Double Black.
