Joseph Bologna, an actor, playwright and screenwriter who was so memorable as the egotistical King Kaiser in the 1982 comedy classic My Favorite Year, has died. He was 82.
Bologna died Sunday morning at City of Hope hospital in Duarte, Calif. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three years ago, said his wife of 52 years, actress and screenwriter Renee Taylor.
Bologna received an Oscar nomination for adapted screenplay, shared with his wife and David Zelag Goodman, for his work on Lovers and Other Strangers (1970). The couple had first written it for Broadway in a 1968 production directed by Charles Grodin.

Love him in Blame it on Rio, so funny!
My Favorite Years is one of my favorite movies.
Joseph Bologna a good actor.
LOVE that movie!
“I’m not an actor! I’m a movie star!”
Loved “Blame it on Rio” for a couple of other things!
He was also Rico in the made for TV movie “Copacabana”.
“His name was Rico, he wore a diamond.
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancing there!
And when she finished, he called her over.
But Rico went a bit too far, Tony sailed across the bar.
And then the punches flew
and chairs were smashed in two....”
Bologna as an improv Sid Ceasar in My Favorite Year.
Can still see him taking a hitch on his crotch.
That's the movie I was thinking of.
“This is for Ladies only!”
“So is this dear, but every now and again I have to run some water through it”.
In the heyday of FOX, he starred opposite an unknown Matt LeBlanc in the “Married With Children” spin-off “Top of the Heap.”
So handsome. RIP
My Favorite Year, one of the funniest movies of all time.
One of my favorite actors. “Lovers And Other Strangers” was the first movie I ever saw; I didn’t know was one of the writers.
I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him for about 10 mins. He was the type of man you felt you knew all your life - very nice unassuming guy!
Enjoyed his work. RIP to Mr. Bologna and condolences to his wife, Renee.
I really like(d) him. This frigging sucks.
If you get a chance, check out the movies “Cops & Robbers” and the previously mentioned “Blame It On Rio”.
