Is there any Free Republic Nets or hang out frequencies on HF?
Ham discussion yesterday: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3578785/posts
If people who read Free Republic are FReepers...
Would Freepers who are on ham radios be Hamsters?
No Hf That I am aware of
Lol!
I hope so.
:-)
I’ve heard that a lot of short wave broadcasters are going digital and you have to get a special receiver to hear them.
My dad has a couple of old Hallicrafter’s he’d like to sell. http://www.shortwaveradio.ch/radio-e/hallicrafters-s40b-e.htm
Add me to the ham radio ping list of you have one.
I don’t have a ping list, but was just cross positing to yesterday’s thread.
I think they sell those receivers online. I operate a type of radio called a Software Define Radio. I can decode the HF digital shortwave stations with my computer.
You can pick up a receive only SDR radio that covers from 500K to 3 Ghz for about $150 dollars. That gives you the Shortwave, Police and a bunch of other stuff. Google SDRplay.
For Neil E. Wright
Nope. They'd Hampers.
That led me down Wikipedia to read references associated with Software Defined Radio.
Most fascinating! It seems an extremely efficient way to have the best “normal” radio, at all times.
question, are the software defined radios subject to hacking and for “survival” wouldn’t a Ham be safer?
I suppose next you'll be saying we smell of elderberries.
There used to be an IRC and Yahoo FR chat rooms, but they didn’t get much traffic.
Yahoo changed/dropped chatrooms years ago. I have not use IRC in years, so I don’t know which network had or might still have the FR chat room.
What happens on FR stays on FR.
Please add me to any ham radio ping list.
Not really. It ends up having to use ultrawideband antennas capable of receiving a wide frequency range but none of them as efficiently as a narrow band antenna.

NO, don’t google it and quit using that word. Do a web search for it or duckduckgo it. You have heard about googly/yutube and other tech companies blocking conservatives and the alt-right?
