Man the days before rap saw some really, really fine black musicians. I know they’re still out there - we just don’t get the good stuff because of all the garbage.

Accidentally ran across this on the radio one night - a show I don’t normally listen to. But I’ve found a couple of gems - I hope you enjoy them (and hope others do, too)

Yes! We have two adopted black children, and I am trying hard to keep them away from that stuff, and make fun of it when it comes into our lives (car pulling up next to us). Even movies that are otherwise okay have that stuff as the closing theme or elsewhere.

I am filling the void by exposing them to some of those many fine musicians (in addition to good music in general). Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Fats Domino, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr. and even some of the light pop/disco groups like the Sylvers (they find the '70s outfits/afros hilarious!) and Gladys Knight and the Pips. I'm just staring my nine year old son out on the clarinet. It's portable, not too loud, and unused in Rap/Hip-Hop.
