Instead of don’t drink the water they should issue a warning ....... Don’t drink the alcohol!

Jamaica and Barbados are getting my tourist $ rather than Mexico this year.
In the past couple of weeks, we have gotten a flood of emails and expensive mailings with great deals on so called 4 and 5 star lodges/hotels on Mexico’s west coast.
Things have gone downhill really fast in that part of the world. Between ten and twenty years ago, I spent a lot of time in both Maya Riviera and Baja California. It might have been at the tail end of a way of life, but I whiled away many blissful days camped out on isolated beaches, trading beer (or dollars) for seafood, and surfing my brains out without a care in the world. Not anymore.
Supply and demand can't be repealed. You want to stop the drugs, bomb the cartels, put troops on the border, and end the law enforcement/prison industrial complex.
We used to go to Mexico just to have some fun decades ago. It was basically friendly.
Now?
They’d have better luck juggling flaming chains saw while roller skating than talk me into going to Mehico.
That’s too bad. Love the Mayan Riveria
Was safe....
Not anymore....
I won't go.......
Save your money and the trip, there are plenty of places right here in America where you can get robbed, raped or murdered by immigrants Without spending time and money to visit their homeland.
..............lol...........went down to Cancun and La Playa Del Carmen in mid June................
Sub machine gun toting federals everywhere 200 feet on the streets!
I can’t think of a place in Mexico that I would travel to these days. I used to go scuba diving in San Carlos. I had few problems driving all over the country several years ago. I won’t set foot in Mexico ever again.
We went to Valentin Riviera Maya resort in July and it was calm and safe and very nice. My husband and I never travel but our grown children talked us into a family trip. How could we refuse? Hubby did all the research and gave in to go. He is the most cautious person you will meet. If this news came out before we went he would not have gone. We didn’t venture off the resort, no need. And we sure didn’t go out looking for night life in Cancun. Sad for those hard working people that make resorts run smoothly. They really made us feel special.
We have a trip to Ixtapa scheduled for the first week in February. We are going with a large group who travel there every winter for a week. They have not reported anything scary on their past trips.
We have been to Cabo 3 times in the last 5 years and had no issues. We don’t go off the reservation after dark however. We have been to various Mexican resorts about 10-11 times in the last 12 years and had no issues. Just gotta be careful.
My family and I have a cruise that stops in Cozumel, Belize and Honduras in September. We’ve booked an excursion through the cruise line for Belize and a beach resort for Cozumel. Hopefully all will be fine. Is a private beach in Cozumel with very high ratings on Trip Adviser and they limit the number of people on the property per day. I wonder if the cruise lines will take notice and change the itinerary due to the advisory.
