To add insult to injury, it appears Mr. Francisco Chairez is a liar about why he ended up in jail for a year. You don’t typically get a year in the county slammer for a first time DUI.

So Chelsea is tweeting about an WaPost editorial from a guy with no credibility, given his obvious lies.
For awhile, Maine would allow first time DUI offenders the choice of 48-72 in the pokey, or a weekend (maybe two?)working their butts off around a public building (school, etc). There's always stuff to be cleaned, swept, painted, etc.
Most Mainers took option #2. Made sense to me, most of them are young people who did something stupid and this was a good chance to make amends.
