What’s funny is, a company—Anchor Bay, I think—paid a lot of money to restore NOTLD to give it a quality release, and some of the low-rent DVD companies thought they could use that transfer for their own releases! It doesn’t really work that way. Yeah, release NOTLD all you want, but do your own work on your own print!

***I’m watching Napoléon right now....***

Is that the silent version with the triple wide screen at the last?

I just watched this “marriage counseling” sketch from Carol Burnett Show that slayed me back in the day. Carol, Harvey Korman and Carl Reiner. Still so funny!

I was 11 years old at the time, but I remember hearing about the speech. Or, more likely, I recall the discussion resulting from the speech some time after it was given.

“what is a Newton Minow?”

What? You’ve never tasted Newton Minnow (correct spelling)? It’s an old Freeper delicacy.

First, you need to buy 4 boxes of Fig Newtons. Then go to your local bait shop and purchase a bucket of minnows.

Empty the boxes of Fig Newtons into the minnow bucket, stirring the mixture counter-clockwise with a wooden spoon for 5 minutes.

Put it in a closet that has an overhead light - turn on the light and close the closet door.

Leave the closet undisturbed for 4 days and 6 hours (4 days and 4 hours if it’s raining).

Invite friends and family to your place. In the dining room, pass out large metal spoons so that everyone has one.

Go to the closet and after turning the light on & off 7 times, get the bucket of Newton Minnow, put it the middle of the dining room and recite the traditional Icelandic language invitation for your guests to dig in: “Fraw gi plukyer mahggik-twwangher”.

Finally, just bask your guests praises of your culinary expertise.

Enjoy!

I have to admit, I don’t watch tv any more except for very special occasions. I can see most of what I want online. So I don’t even know if there is Me TV around here. I spend most of my time reading, and far too much time on FR!!

I believe the way to get around that is to make some change - like put in a different title lettering or adding some other element, eg. chapter marks, so that a video can be registered as a “new work”. I think that’s how quite a few distributors can re-issue public domain films under their own label.

“I miss classic TV”

I rarely watch TV at all, getting my video-based fix online or by buying DVDs (usually of obscure or out of print titles).

One thing I don’t like when I’ve looked at a few shows is they have “story arcs” they serve it up in serial-soap opera style where you have to watch it every week. I like each episode to be a complete story, self contained - or at the most a two-parter.

The last TV show I watched beginning to end that was serial-like was the “Twin Peaks Return”, but that was a special exception.
