Gerald McCoy: 'It's Going To Be An Uproar' If Players Forced To Stand
ESPN ^ | 10/11/17 | Kevin Seifert and Michael Rothstein

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Gerald McCoy, speaking on Adam Schefter's Know Them From Adam podcast, said he thinks there might "be an uproar" if NFL players are forced to stand for the national anthem.

"I don't think guys are gonna like it," McCoy said, when asked about the possible reaction from players. "I think it's gonna be an uproar if that is to happen because you're basically taking away a constitutional right to freedom of speech. If guys wanna have a, I guess you would call it a peaceful protest, I don't think it's right to take that away."

McCoy, an eight-year veteran and one of the Bucs' defensive captains, said he does not plan on kneeling during the anthem.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear in a letter sent Tuesday to all 32 teams that he wants players to stand during the anthem. He did not provide specifics about how he intends to ensure it, but he wrote that it would "include such elements as an in-season platform to promote the work of our players on these core issues."

The issue will be discussed during the NFL's regularly scheduled fall meetings in New York next week.

President Donald Trump, who said last month that NFL owners should "fire" players who kneel during the anthem, tweeted early Wednesday morning:

It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem-RESPECT OUR COUNTRY

They are free to do what they want. Either do what their employer, who pays them extremely well, wants or go protest full time.

You can “uproar” all you want, I won’t notice.

What a dumb-bell. I mean, this guy has the brains of a cork.

It is not a free speech issue. When the players start paying the bills, then they decide what their employees can and cannot do. They are using the platform provided by the owners to express their political views, which hurts business. They don't own the platform and don't have a right to decide how it is used.

I am sure that’s what will happen. The NFL will start putting fines on players.

Possibly expel players the following game each time they do it? That way in case they all do it, then the NFL will get replacements.

Fair enough...let the players go on strike. That'll cause the attitude of millions of fans to become *less* sympathetic to them.

When that happens...watch what happens to ticket sales.Watch what happens to the sales of licensed clothing items (game jerseys, jackets, etc). And watch what happens...in courtrooms and otherwise...between the league, the networks and sponsors like Ford and Budweiser.

You punks may be millionaires....but it's always been obvious that your median IQ is around 70.

What these blasted idiots fail ro recognize is the simple fact that the FOOTBALL FIELD is their WORK PLACE.
They can kneel in the middle of Times Square and no one would care unless, “Maybe”, one of them got run over. That, truly is covered aa Freedom of Speech action.
When one is in his/her /workplace, one does what the BOSS/OWNER says, especially if one wants to keep that job.
There are countless business in the junk yard of failure, put there when the company purposly drove away the CUSTOMER. A huge portion of the player’s income is thanks to millions of customers many, many miles away from the emptying stadium. Wise up, guys.

Good. I hope it is. If I recall, it is a contract year for the NFLPA so let’s get the bargaining started. That will complete the demise of football started by the liberal soccer moms and now carried by the millennial PC nazi’s
