An influential British theatre director has reportedly been removed from his post amid allegations he made inappropriate sexual comments to staff. Max Stafford-Clark, former artistic director of London's Royal Court theatre, allegedly asked staff members about losing their virginity. One staff member claimed Stafford-Clark told her he was "like a virgin again" since he had suffered a stroke. Widely regarded as one of the country's most successful theatre directors, Stafford-Clark was artist director of the Royal Court for 14 years until he left to set up Out of Joint. A stroke in 2006 left him using a walking stick and wheelchair. Stafford-Clark was forced to leave Out of Joint, the theatre company he founded, after a formal complaint regarding his behaviour, the Guardian reported. Gina Abolins, who runs the company's education programme, claimed the director told her: "Back in the day, Id have been up you like a rat up a drainpipe but now Im a reformed character. My disability means Im practically a virgin again. The 29-year-old said she made a complaint after a number of incidents, including Stafford-Clark asking her to try on a bikini and encouraging her have causal sex which she could tell him about. Ms Abolins said was left shocked and embarrassed by the comments and made to feel that he had "got away with it". She added that she was one of three women the director asked about their experiences of losing their virginity. Stafford-Clark's former PA Steffi Holtz, 25, told the Guardian she had also been asked about losing her virginity a number of times and even tapped her on the bottom on one occasion.
