FULL TITLE: 'Something was off': Survivor says US troops were stalled by a village elder before they were ambushed by 50 terrorists in Niger for hours following a near 24 hour patrol operation

The four American special forces killed fighting in Niger were ambushed by 50 ISIS terrorists after they were stalled by a village elder, a survivor of the attack has revealed.

The group of 12 American forces had accompanied 30 Nigerien forces to an area about 85 kilometers north of the capital Niamey on a routine reconnaissance mission on October 3, when a dramatic new order came through to kill or capture a top ISIS target, officials told ABC News.

They were never able to track down the target, but the convoy of 6-8 vehicles, which included three American, stopped at the remote village of Tongo Tongo after the long night of patrolling, at 11am the next day, a survivor of the attack said.

The meeting with the village, which is seen as supportive of ISIS, is a routine part of the Green Beret mission. But after the meeting, officials say village elders attempted to stall the troops from leaving.

The survivor, who has not been named, told ABC: 'Something was off'.

Yea and notice who reports it too? NOT the American media, oh no they can’t be bothered with anything as mundane as the news. Oh no it’s got to be the British Media.

You are a damn SF-ODA. You are 12 aggressive, A-type, experienced and well trained warriors.

You tell the village idiot to “f*ck off” and then move out.

We have military and ex military people here. So will you tell me why we even bother to send troops to Niger? Drop bombs on ISIS there. Not like we could “bomb it back to the stone age” they are still there. It won’t matter.

I would say, these village elders, and anyone connected with them, are now grade A-1 targets.

You send SF troops there to train the locals to better hunt down and kill ISIS.

It is war with “a small footprint.”

Sounds like mission to win hearts and minds, and treachery or complicity by the village elders. This is what was tried in Afghanistan during Bush/Obama years, and costs us lots of our finest soldiers.

We should get away from this type of thinking, and just hammer ISIS wherever we find them, and get out. Repeat as necessary. No patrolling by our finest troops, where they can be picked off by IEDs and ambushes, just engage, smash, destroy and withdraw. Repeat ad infinitum.

Ever hear of Eisenhower's warning to beware the military/industrial complex? This is a prime example.
Troops are in Africa for the same reason we sent them to Vietnam - to stop "undesireables" (i.e. communists) - only this time it's ISIS terrorists.
It's all BS.

Return to the village and kill everything that lives.

Bests friends, or worst enemies, your choice.

Yeah. It's an extremely odd defensive strategy for Democrats to say, "Benghazi! Benghazi! Remember Benghazi? Let's talk about Benghazi!"

Really? That's your Safe Place you want to retreat to?

Who here thinks US troops should be hunting ISIS in Niger?

My opinion is an emphatic NO!

I cannot givva sh!t what happens there. I don’t care if ISIS cuts every head in the country.

I just don’t care.

The village elder who stalled them must be found, and his body flayed and returned to the village.
