The $999 (£999 in the UK) iPhone X features an edge-to-edge display The new phone, which is released on November 3, has a 'super retina display'

Apple has reportedly fired one of its engineers after his daughter leaked details about the upcoming iPhone X on her YouTube channel. On Wednesday Brooke Amelia Peterson posted footage of the 10th anniversary iPhone, which she claimed to have picked up when visiting her dad at Apple's California HQ. But in a new video posted on Saturday, Peterson said that her 'honest, wonderful' dad had lost his job as a result of her video, and begged users not to target him. 'You know what guys? Hate on me all you want, but please don't hate on my father, because he's the best person,' she said, welling up.

That broke company policy, she said - adding that her dad accepted 'full responsibility'

In the video, her dad (left) lets her play with the phone and shows its various functions. That broke company policy, she said - adding that her dad accepted 'full responsibility'

How much is her grab at 15 minutes going to cost her father?

He does have the advantage of intimately knowing about the inner workings of the Iphone, knowledge competitors would love to tap in to, so it would make sense for Apple to keep him around. Do you think his daughter took that into consideration when she was going about potentially wrecking his career?

Samsung? LG? Google?

They all could use an Apple-quality RF engineer!

Who would hire engineer who pays no attention to company policy by making videos inside a company facility of an unreleased product so his Valley Girl daughter can get some clicks on YouTube?

This is an opportunity for Apple’s competitors to benefit from Apple’s obsession with secrecy.

I sincerely doubt if he can be hired by Apple’s competition. I’m quite certain Apple has hefty “non-compete” clauses in their employment contract which generally remain in effect for up to 5 years after the employment arrangement has been severed. If such a clause was in place, Samsung, Google, etc wouldn’t want to touch him with a 10 foot pole. That and the very basic fact that he violated company confidentiality by allowing his daughter access to privileged company information and allowed her to film it.

Why would anyone hate the father for the stupidity of the daughter?

Not only did he allow her to make the video, he participated in the video.

But I’m so glad to learn that the new iPhone has animated emojis. That’s truly breakthrough technology!

Apple has a super-ironclad NDR. THe engineer will be given two options. Obey the NDR,and not work for a competator for a minimum of two years. In exchange, he will be able to get foodstamps until he can find replacement work at a non-cellphone company.

Otherwise...

Sorry, noncompete agreements are not enforceable in California. He can go work at any competitor that will hire him.

Yeah, and edge to edge technology...something Samsung had with their Galaxy Edge several years ago.

I bought an Edge about 2 1/2 years ago. Got it in a buy one, get one free deal (free one went to my brother). And both phones together didn't cost me anywhere near $1000.

Yes, he participated and the video taping was NOT done surreptitiously. Apple allowed it to happen.

This was planned by Apple and they will hire him back.

Does Apple really need the extra publicity created by this stunt, if that’s really what it is?

About all I got from the video was that the camera is, like, totally awesome. Fer sure!

Is Apple worried that the faithful won’t be lining up at the Apple Stores for days prior to the release?
