November 13: On this day in history...
Youtube ^ | November 13, 2017

On November 13, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence; that request came from his wife. Deep down, he knew she was right, but he also knew that some day he would return to her. With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of his friend, Oscar Madison. Several years earlier, Madison's wife had thrown HIM out, requesting that HE never return. Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy?

Always liked the series better than the movie - Jack Lemmon was a fine actor, but I always liked Tony Randall as Felix better, and Jack Klugman had it all over Walter Matthau.

The original Felix was Art Carney:

IIRC, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) acted the role of Felix Unger in his 1969 senior class play at Nile C. Kinnick HS, aka Yo-Hi since it was in Yokohama.

I have to give the guy credit for pulling off the impossible - in his 70's marrying a decidedly hot woman decades younger (not to mention having a couple of kids!) without getting pilloried in the court of public opinion. He seemed to pull it off with grace and ease. A lot of people assumed he was gay but he didn't care and just went after what he wanted and was successful. Seems like a life well lived.

In the Broadway play? I never knew that - before my time. I would love to have seen Carney playing Felix, though - all I really know of him is Ed Norton.

That opening monologue always bothered me. Felix and Oscar getting along with each other had nothing to do with them being divorced. It was ‘cause they’re complete opposites.
