Members of the Ohio execution team tried to find veins in the arms and right leg of death row prisoner Alva Campbell for about 25 minutes before stopping.

I really don’t know why that isn’t a standard practice:

“Hey, Rico, tomorrow is the day. About 9AM we will take you down the hall. The injection should be quick and painless. Are you ready?”
“No, but I don’t have much choice, do I?”
“I guess not. Well, here’s your dinner, just like you asked.”
“Thanks”

And within minutes, Rico is passed out, because they drugged his food. And they immediately take him down the hall, shove a needle wherever they like, and it’s all over.

In hanging an extremely obese man, you have to worry about the possibility of the head coming off, which would be messy.
