Marine Le Pen: Is France's National Front leader far-right?
BBC ^ | undated | Hugh Schofield

Posted on 11/22/2017 7:36:53 AM PST by SunkenCiv

Marine Le Pen's political awakening came at the age of eight, when she survived a bombing at her family's Paris home.

Five kilograms of dynamite had been placed on the landing outside the apartment at 9 Villa Poirier. The explosion ripped open the entire front of the building. A baby in the next-door flat fell five floors and was saved by the branches of a tree.

In her autobiography, the woman who took over the leadership of France's National Front (FN) from her father describes the chaos, the smoke and debris.

She and her two sisters “were on our knees shivering, holding hands, praying with the fervour of despair… when we heard the voice of our father shouting, 'Girls, girls, are you alive?'”

The mystery of who tried to kill Jean-Marie Le Pen and his family on the night of 1 November 1976 is still unsolved.

At the time the FN was just four years old...

It's a large, heavily illustrated, very good in-depth, although from the title one wouldn't guess that. Enjoy.

The BBC seems to speak of it as if it were a problem.

Her experience with the Catholic school staff apparently was a lot like the bomb that nearly killed their entire family in 1976. She's nationalist, wants immigration stopped, but isn't in favor of mass deportations (which wouldn't work, considering everyone was welcomed into French citizenship and put on the dole upon arrival), wants the Franc back -- and so there's a lot of new support from the disenchanged left. She wants French nationals to be at the head of the line for public housing (so, obviously, in favor of public housing). Beyond that, she seems to be pragmatic, even opportunistic, in her policy positions. Her main advisor is a clean-cut gay left-wing nationalist, go figure. Her disgraced (and 89 year old) father's Russophilia comes, I think, from having survived the WWII German occupation, during which time most of the combat against Germany was being done by the USSR.

Here’s my comment on the FN’s political chances:

I’d add that, with Macron being a nimble politician, even chameleon-like, barring some scandal or bungled national tragedy on his watch, he’ll probably be reelected by a huge margin, leaving the FN marginalized, but perhaps still in second place.

Anarchism is not on the right. That’s on the left. Communists promise an anarchic society after the dictatorship “withers away”, predicated upon the disappearance of the bourgeoisie.

The right is pro-family, the family being the basic unit of society, and that has leadership; it also recognizes that “governments are instituted among men” to safeguard the natural rights of men and their families. Anarchists are just as anti-family as communists.

Anyone disagreeing with the media's far left position (which they claim is centrist), is portrayed as far right.

Well, last year she said that she would ban all religious symbols in France, including those of Christians and Jews, under the pretext of battling “radical Islam” (this is actually giving in to Islam, which has very few symbols of its own; it is also advancing communism in particular).

Have they tried to solve it?

Notice the East-West gradient in those maps. The West of France is rural and has few immigrants. It’s also the area where anti-clericism was highest, so people there are less religious.

LePen a leader of the Right? Parbleu! She or her daughter (who is a strict Roman Catholic) will be president of a new France. A France that will stand by herself as an independent state. Look to see a great future for France in the coming years— Make France Great Again!

I’ve often wondered how many freepers would choose to rid the world of Islam, if it meant ridding the world of Christianity.

I think you mean her niece is a strict Roman Catholic. I imagine her children are atheists like her. Her niece has abandoned politics.

I'm not sure she is really a nationalists, since she wants to remove anything culturally French and turn it into a materialistic, Eurosocialist state.

Her father has described himself as socially left wing. I don't think she is any different.

Well, despite the occupation, he seems to have some sympathy for them. Among other things, being a holocaust denialist.
