She and her father, and the FN supporters, want a France that is French, national sovereignty, and closed borders. Whereas I've mellowed a little in the past couple of years, and regard the father's "detail of the war" remark as insensitive at best (he's never been quoted as saying that the Holocaust never happened), they're clearly both such opportunistic double-dealers that I no longer see them as much of a threat; considering that all French politicians (and politicians in general) have that opportunistic trait, and that it would be better if the country did have closed borders and maybe "Frexit" ("Fr'egress"?), and of course that something like 15% of French citizens (ahem) support ISIS, France could do worse. They never keep any leader for long anyway. The current political picture is, the muzzie-coddling, violence-justifying, anti-Jewish national polity likes having the FN around as an alibi and whipping boy.
The far-right leader was convicted of Holocaust denial after he declared in 1987 that the gas chambers used by Nazi Germany to exterminate Jews were a "detail in the history of World War II".
Jean-Marie has been fined multiple times for Holocaust denial, once saying, "If you take a 1,000-page book on World War II, the concentration camps take up only two pages and the gas chambers 10 to 15 lines. This is what one calls a detail."
Facing international condemnation, a senior Malaysian official Friday defended Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's assertion at an Islamic summit that Jews rule the world, but apologized for any misunderstandings or offense. At their own summit in Brussels, Belgium, European Union leaders had drafted a harshly worded statement condemning Mahathir's remarks, but French President Jacques Chirac blocked the wording from becoming a part of a final declaration.
Last October 16, Malaysia's then-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad told a summit of Islamic leaders that the "Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them." He added, "1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews," therefore Muslims must unite against the Jews for a "final victory." And who pleaded his case? No other that Jacques Chirac, the French President... Young French Muslims are very radicalized, and hail Bin Laden as their hero. They yelled, Death to America and the Jews during demonstrations in Paris, last year. The scenes in the streets of Paris mirrored those we have seen over and over in Teheran, Cairo and Ramallah, where the US and Israeli flags are burned. Furthermore, France has witnessed the biggest wave of anti-Semitism since the 1930s, since September 2001. Over 1,300 anti-Semitic acts have been accounted for by the Wiesenthal Center -- almost two a day.
In a moving speech commemorating the 60th anniversary of the infamous roundup of French Jews in 1942, French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin spoke hard truths to his fellow countrymen. For two generations, the French have cloaked themselves in the memory of a resistance movement against the Nazi occupation that was neither widespread nor terribly glorious.
