You would think that, by now, people would have stopped making films about talking animals. You would think that, after witnessing the monstrosities that were Andy the Talking Hedgehog, A Talking Cat!?! and Kevin Spacey’s Nine Lives, producers would run a giddy mile from such a flat-out dismal genre.
And yet.
Not only is there a new contender in town, but it might be the most inexplicable of them all. The film in question is Best Friend from Heaven and ... look, perhaps it’s better if we go through its trailer scene by scene.
1 Meet Gabe. He’s an adorable dog with a kind face. Better yet, his wonderful owner is about to get married. Honestly, it just feels as if nothing could ever possibly go wrong. Oh, no, wait. This film is called Best Friend from Heaven, isn’t it? Right, scrap all that. Someone is about to die.
2 Fortunately, it’s Gabe. We don’t see Gabe being hit by a car as he chases a squirrel into the middle of a busy road, but the look of abject horror on his owner’s face – combined with a sound effect so startlingly graphic that it’s bound to stop your children from sleeping for several weeks – suggests that this is what has happened. Really, it’s for the best. Would you want to see a film about a dog pining away to nothing because his owner was killed and his heart is broken? No, of course you wouldn’t. It’s much better if the dog dies.

“Heaven Can Wait” meets “The Peoples Choice”?..............
Might have worked better as a cartoon or claymation.
To the smarmy author of the article: this movie cannot possibly be any worse than most of the crap that Hollywood barfs out.

People are so weird. It has the look of a Hallmark movie, and what is wrong with that? O NO, the sound of screeching tires, and a cry of pain, children cannot handle that. Next they will have a boy shooting his much loved dog to death because they didn’t get him vaccinated. WHAT? Did that already?
Apparently this person has never seen, "The Secret Life of Pets".
Of believe me Kris, we will be talking about "Convoy" too.
How you could take a cool some and make that tripe out of it is beyond comprehension.
Not even Earnest Borgnine could save it.
I LOVE good pet movies like Homeward Bound and K-9. And my dog loves them even more than I do. This one just sounds depressing.
He was also in the mega-flop “Heaven’s Gate”. He should avoid movies with Heaven in the title.

One of the many variations on an old joke:
A guy takes his dog to an entertainment agent, claiming the dog can talk.
The agent says “Sure he can. Okay, let’s hear him”.
So the guy asks his dog, “How was the road coming into town today?”
“Rough,” barked the dog.
“Continue”, says the agent.
“What do we have over our house?”
“Roof,” barked the mutt.
The agent says “They sound like barks to me”.
The guy was disappointed, but persevered.
“All right,” he said, “this time you pick out the topic. Ask me to ask him about anything.”
The agent said “Okay. Ask him something about baseball.”
“Who,” the dog was asked, “was the greatest ballplayer who ever lived?”
“Ruth,” barked the dog.
“Get out!” barked the agent.
As the pair was walking out, the guy says to the dog, “Well, you really did it to me this time.
The dog’s tail stops wagging, and the dog looks up at the guy and asks “Do you think I should have said Gehrig?”
I can say that Kristofferson is one of the worst actors of all time.
