So “Color” pictures make the horror more horrible?

Who knew.

Diary of the damned: Never seen before, a lost diary of the Great War so brutally vivid you'll feel YOU are there in the trenches

Not nitpicking completely, but the headline writer chose “missile assault”?

Even the Daily Mail is hiring children to work for them.

Horrible! Those poor people. The color makes it worse in a way.

Like 9/11/2001, my dad remembers what they were doing when they heard the announcement about Pearl Harbor. The family was celebrating my grandma’s birthday a day early with extended family and the announcement came over the radio, dad was 7. Must have shaken everyone.

One of the worse mistakes in history, resulting in this payback:

Note: color has been removed to reduce the horror.

Actual daily mail title:
“On the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, shocking colorized photographs show the horror of the missile assault that claimed more than 2,400 lives and pulled the US into the Second World War”

So who inserted the word ‘missile’ into this post?

The loss of all the sailors was terrible. But the loss of the ships wasn’t as heavy a blow.

The damaged battleships were WWI vintage ships, too slow to keep up with the Fast Carrier Task Force that was to be our main strike arm in the Pacific war.

Our carriers were out to sea and undamaged by the attack.

The 2nd photo you posted is of the USS Shaw that had its bow blown off after being struck by a Japanese bomb. I remember when, on a Dec 7, in the early 1960’s, Mr. Murphy, one of our high school history teachers, talked about being in the Navy at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. He was a young sailor who was at the end of his enlistment and had signed off the USS Shaw the previous week and was in the transient barracks waiting to sail back to the west coast and receive his discharge. He noted that he was not discharged until after the end of the war. The reason that his story has stuck in my mind is that he said that he was bunked in the bow of the Shaw and, if he had not been signed off the ship due to being discharged, he would have been killed with all of his shipmates who were in the bow berths.
