If urea and ammonia build up in the body because the kidneys are unable to eliminate them, for example, serious symptoms can result.

Why causes the urea to build up? Renal failure? Don't go to the bathroom often enough? Proteins in the brain are degenerating and creating urea as waste? Other biologic issues? Isn't this kind of a key point?

UTIs in the elderly can cause dementia-like symptoms. Dealt with many with elderly parents.

Why causes the urea to build up?

My bet would be constipation.

Don't go to the bathroom often enough?

If that's the case then drinking more beer could be the ultimate preventative for this debilitating brain disease.........

Don't credit me, all the praise belongs to Cliff Clavin and his Buffalo Theory.........

Yes, I d like to hear more about the urea and the progress. Don’t these writers and researchers understand that lives are being affected daily, and we’d like to hear the potential “crime scene exploration” in case it could help someone even before the research is concluded one way or the other?

I have seen that urinary tract infections worsen dementia.

And we all know that dementia causes incontinence.

So I wonder what starts developing that could be stopped?

All I know is that when I’m really working physically hard,in the gym or around the farm, I’m off-gasing serious ammonia. I can really smell it when I get in the shower.

You are correct. The article never states why urea might be increased in the brain. The urea could be a secondary metabolite to some other pathologic process. As such, the article is crap.
