Objection voiced as Ireland signs up to EU defense pact

The Irish government has been accused of selling out Irish neutrality.

It comes as the European Council has adopted the decision to establish a European Union defense pact, known as PESCO.

Portugal and Ireland are the latest countries to join the pact.

However, Sinn Féin Member of the European Parliament, Matt Carthy, said there has been “zero public debate” on the issue.

“Among the most ludicrous argument proponents asserted was that we needed to sell off Irish neutrality in order to show support for the EU and its values,” Carthy said. “Since when did increasing national defense budgets, creating new military capabilities, fuelling the arms industry and compromising respect for human rights and democracy become core values of the European Union?” …

Oh, it's okay to hit your own folks.

If the EU needs it’s own military, NATO is obsolete- let’s move our forces out of Germany and into Poland, Hungary, and Czech Republic.

As a Cold War vet from the 80s, let’s just give up on Western Europe. Please.

Let them fend for themselves.

You do know why they want their own military, right? They intend to attack US forces. Best to not let them get a footing where they can do that.

Since joining the EU Ireland has sold its very soul to closeted Marxists of Brussels.

The State may become a member of the European Coal and Steel Community (established by Treaty signed at Paris on the 18th day of April, 1951), the European Economic Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957) and the European Atomic Energy Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957).

No provision of this Constitution invalidates laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the State necessitated by the obligations of membership of the Communities—or prevents laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the Communities, or institutions thereof, from having the force of law in the State.
That is the text of the Third Amendment to Ireland’s constitution, from 1972. The part in bold shows that they sold out their sovereignty to the EU, putting EU law above Irish law.

And of course, many of the Marxists in Brussels are not at all closeted. Former EU Commission head José Manuel Barroso (who is also a former prime minister of Portugal) came from Portugal’s Maoist underground. Current foreign minister Federica Mogherini came from Italy’s communist party. The EU’s Brussels government is patterned after the governments of communist states, including the former USSR one and the current PRC one.
