National Park Service officials were telling people that the water in the area is off limits.
A surfer was bitten on the foot by a shark today near the mouth of Drakes Estero, an estuary off the coast of Marin County. As of 3:48 p.m., National Park Service officials were telling people that the water in the area is off limits until further notice.
No other information was immediately available.
Lawyers are on the prowl in Marin County this time of year?
Unless he can prove he wasn’t kicking the shark in the teeth, this guy might be subject to CA wildlife cruelty laws.
Pretty sure this is a common area for shark sightings and attacks.
It’s a beautiful place - I lived there for a couple of years. However, the water is super cold and usually rough, although swimmers do go out (including my kids when they were little and would swim until their lips were blue). There are a lot of sharks, including Great Whites, in the Drakes Bay/Tomales Bay area, and every so often they get aggressive. Or hungry.
Sharks in the ocean? How shocking is that?
They did know there were sharks in that ocean before they went in didn’t they?
Just 25 miles out are the Farallon Islands where a large population of elephant seals attracts great whites. Lot’s of other species of seals too. I’m guessing the area is a popular shark hang out, and probably not the safest place to surf.
Was it an Assault Shark? I thought California outlawed them. Perhaps it go in through the Fish Market loophole.
