I'm thinking Trump is playing 4D chess right now and welcomes the distraction, as there is a lot going on for him behind the scenes. He wants the public’s, especially the liberal public’s attention on this shiny object/Wolff book right now so they won't be aware of what else is afoot.

What better way than to make the book available for free, to everyone, and cut the legs out from underneath the author and publishing house? I'm betting this has been the plan for months, which is why they let Wolff in the WH in the first place.
