Alligators use bizarre – and creepy – ancient ritual to survive NC’s arctic blast

A North Carolina swamp park has posted a video explaining how alligators survive in a frozen pond, and it’s both creepy and bizarre...

...The alligators seem to instinctively know when the water is about to freeze, says Howard, who is general manager of the park. They respond by sticking their nose above the surface at just the right moment, allowing the water to freeze around them.... Alligators then enter “a state of brumation, like hibernating.” Alligators can regulate their body temperature in all sorts of weather, park officials said, and can essentially remain frozen in place until the ice melts.

The Democrats are considering adopting the (frozen) alligator as their mascot for the next fifty years.

Yes better.

But still, the critters are alligators.

Worked well for Amos Moses!
And he’d just use one hand
That’s all he got left ‘cause an alligator bit it.

About forty-five minutes southeast of Thibodaux, Louisiana.

You think that sheriff would know the address?

Must have run out of breadcrumbs or something?

When animals do things to survive (or build a nest-which I find absolutely fascinating), am I the only one who thinks they are just obeying God since they are not fallen? They are under a curse (since the flood), and the donkey spoke in the Old Testament. Just wondering.

I think Snapper Turtles do the same thing here in Delaware. Used to be a “progger” when I was a kid. in early Spring I would walk out in the marsh and I could find their heads sticking up. I’d dig em up and sell them to the local restaurants for Snapper Soup.

How about the snakes in the Florida? Has it been cold enough there to kill them? I have heard that sixty degrees F. kills them.
