One need only look at the problems created by the invasive species to our country to understand the dangers of unregulated immigration. European Starlings, Kudzu, Zebra Mussels, Pythons, Asian Carp, Feral Pigs, Snakeheads, Gypsy Moth, Stink Bug ....
An invasive species is a plant, fungus, or animal species that is not native to a specific location (an introduced species), and that has a tendency to spread to a degree believed to cause damage to the environment, human economy or human health.
One study found that of a list of invasive and noninvasive species, 86% of the invasive species could be identified from the traits alone. Common invasive species traits include the following:
-Fast growth -Rapid reproduction -High dispersal ability -Phenotypic plasticity (the ability to alter growth form to suit current conditions) -Tolerance of a wide range of environmental conditions -Ability to live off of a wide range of food types -Association with humans -Prior successful invasions
An introduced species might become invasive if it can outcompete native species for resources such as nutrients, light, physical space, water, or food. If these species evolved under great competition or predation, then the new environment may host fewer able competitors, allowing the invader to proliferate quickly.
An invasive species might be able to use resources that were previously unavailable to native species.
Facilitation also occurs where one species physically modifies a habitat in ways that are advantageous to other species.
In ecosystems, the amount of available resources and the extent to which those resources are used by organisms determines the effects of additional species on the ecosystem. In stable ecosystems, equilibrium exists in the use of available resources. These mechanisms describe a situation in which the ecosystem has suffered a disturbance, which changes the fundamental nature of the ecosystem.
Some invaders cause negative benefits towards the economy of the local area. For example, in the Great Lakes Region the sea lamprey is an invasive species that acts as a predator. In its original habitat, the sea lamprey used co-evolution to act as a parasite without killing the host organism.
Economic costs from invasive species can be separated into direct costs through production loss in agriculture and forestry, and management costs. Estimated damage and control cost of invasive species in the U.S. alone amount to more than $138 billion annually.
Much of the content was from Wikipedia "Invasive Species."
Build the wall?
I forgot one of the greatest immigrants, responsible for more deaths worldwide over the centuries than any other animal due to being a disease carrier to humans...
The Norway Rat
So Trump, even the Norwegians must go through scrutiny of an immigration process.
We have our own ‘rat problem.
“We have our own rat problem.”
Rats & Cans...
Mexi, Afri, ..... humor intended... sorry I couldn’t resist even though it is not politically correct. That’s why I will never enter politics.
Dont forget feral horses and asses. They destroy the forage of indigenous species like bighorn sheep.
Feral pigs might have been introduced earlier than feral horses. But both within decades of each other.
If one wants to have wild swine and equis, remove all feral and replace with wild boar and Preswalski horses. The native Indians killed off American horses 12000 years ago.
Shouldnt this be covered in The Endangered Species Act?
And to many are invasive.
Brazilian Pepper treees, Jamaican Whiteflies, Asian Psyllid, which is single handedly destroying the citrus industry
Not to mention the diseases
This is an excellent analogy!
Humans, Native Americans, came here from elsewhere. Soetoro came from some other planet than mine. The horse was brought over from Spain. Birds fly in and poop seeds here from who knows where. Sorry, but everyone and every thing at one time in ancient history came from elsewhere.
“The Endangered Species Act?”
LOL... You mean the “white male?”
