Before they buy Chinese, companies must prove that they can’t buy US produced goods.
Jobs gained in manufacturing in China = Middle class Jobs lost in USA in manufacturing.
It is NOT complicated. Trump is the first POTUS since I was naturalized US citizen in 1970.
to recognize this simple fact.
That is a losing argument, since many manufacturing sectors in US have already been decimated.

Most of the increase in 2017 is simply due to increased American demand - the upturn in the American economy, including a good Christmas shopping season.
Turning around a structural trade deficit like we have with China, is a multi-year effort. The biggest things that we can do, are to make our own businesses more competitive (tax cuts, de-regulation, energy costs), but there is plenty of cheating by China which has to be stopped as well.
That thing is not a subject of discussion with either side which has the opposite perspective.
What should be Xi’s reaction? Do you expect him to say sorry then ban export and demand the Chinese to buy American?
American businesses doing business with the Chinese should be called.
This must be why China made noise about “downgrading” our credit from AAA- to BBB+ ...

Sorry, I don’t understand the question, relative to what I posted.
I mean it is useless to comeplain about the trade surplus to the Chinese.

Amen to that - it will be like pulling teeth to get the Chinese communists to stop cheating and stealing, when it comes to trade. Both sides are planning and preparing for a tough struggle and a long campaign.
