Lawmakers want James Clapper prosecuted for surveillance testimony before statute of limitations
Washington Examiner ^ | January 17, 2017 | Steven Nelson

Some lawmakers would like to see the Justice Department prosecute former spy chief James Clapper for inaccurate testimony to Congress about domestic surveillance before it's too late.

Privacy-conscious critics say looming five-year statutes of limitation for perjury and making false statements — establishing a March 12 deadline for charges — make an urgent case for action, and that nonprosecution would set a dangerous precedent that impedes oversight and executive-branch accountability.

Clapper, director of national intelligence from 2010 to 2017, testified during a March 2013 Senate Intelligence Committee hearing that the NSA was "not wittingly” collecting “any type of data at all” on millions of Americans. Months later, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed secret court orders forced phone companies to turn over all U.S. call records on an “ongoing, daily basis.”

In an apology letter, Clapper wrote that he gave a “clearly erroneous” answer...

Somebody finally noticed there is a little thing called the statute of limitations that is affecting a lot of these crimes that were committed by the previous administration. And in this case the guy has already outright admitted to the crime. Thankfully Congress seems to be doing their job for the most part. The DOJ, not so much.

Clapper needs to go to jail for meddling in the 2016 elections.

Some have put the DoJ IG as a “fixer” to get everybody off from any penalties.

Sorry, expect NOTHING on this front. Sessions is cowering and whimpering in the corner of his office at the thought that he might have to make a decision on this.

Having Sessions heading up DOJ at this time would be like having Chamberlain, instead of Churchill, “leading” Britain at the beginning of World War 2.

Chris Cuomo is ready to provide the "white" board summary of the news. (The black board was being scrubbed.)

Not doing anything about these crimes emboldens these criminals and it needs to stop because this country is dying due to these emboldened wannabe tyrants.

I guess we will find out now whether any of these Congress critters mean anything they say. No Clapper prosecution = No principles in Congress.

I already have my opinion about where this is heading (nowhere). I hope they surprise me.

I agree. He also should go to jail for being a lying, Dr. Strangelove, sonofabitch. I’ll never forget when he said the Muslim Brotherhood is a “secular” organization. Could anyone possibly be more mendacious than that?

None of the participants of the myriad crimes of the Kenyanesian Usurpation will be prosecuted.

For the simple reason that there is no one in the District of Corruption who was not complicit in that violation of Constitution except Trump.

Sessions is cowering and whimpering in the corner of his office at the thought that he might have to make a decision on this.

A theory has been recently put forth by Larry Klayman, that Sessions is possibly being held to heel by a threat from Mueller, who could prosecute Sessions for collusion/obstruction on the Russia thing, since Sessions was supposedly so involved and stated certain things under oath that he had to recuse. Not saying I agree, but based on Sessions' inaction, questions like this start to be raised, and if they're not answered, start looking more likely.

They could always bring him back on active duty (retired USAF Lieutenant General) and have a courts martial...
