These shutdowns actually aren’t as bad as the long CRs which delay any efforts to restrain or reprioritize spending. The democrats won’t help with any spending bill because they know departments they like are going to get cut and money sent to ones they hate (build the wall).
The worst part of a shutdown is not getting your tax refund on time and federal employees that are sent home get back pay for a vacation. Essential employees work for delayed pay and have their leave cancelled.
