1979 Stalker worth a watch
youtube ^ | 1982 | Boris and Arkady Strugatsky

Conversations about good games led to reinstalling Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl because the "Lost Alpha" finished.

Been a long time since that game and it still holds up.

TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Miscellaneous; Music/Entertainment; Society
KEYWORDS: russian; stalker; tarkovsky; zone
Got me thinking about the movie that inspired the game...and the novel Roadside Picnic that inspired both.

Watched last night with English subtitles on Youtube. If anyone wants a nearly 3 hour long study on self/society by the Russians in the early 80's...

Really good movie. Not your traditional horror/sci fi.

You are on the way to a magic room that can give you everything and anything your heart desires.

But, only the desires brought about by despair. Will you enter?

Enjoy.

The Tarkovsky one?

Tarkovsky’s best film is “Andrei Rublev”

Yep, that’s next on the list. I was really amazed...thought I had seen it before.

After burning through to The Garbage last night I flipped it on and 3 hours went by without notice.

He’s one of the greats. Truly. I’ve seen Stalker on the big screen also. <3

Oh...there are subtitles on the Youtube video linked.

If you don’t know how to turn them on, it’s on the bottom right of the screen....first icon on the left.

I am a big fan of the story line. The book was even better than the movie IMHO. The game - amazing. So Lost Alpha is finished? Can you give more details on that? I can’t research right now. For the rest of you - ‘witches jelly’: NOT good on toast..

"Mirror" and "Ivan's Childhood" are works of art, too.

Yes seen those as well and they are cinematographically incredible. But, what I love about Andrei Rublev is the coherent plot for one. (Somewhat lacking in his other films) — and the message he sends about the state of the society he lived in: the repression of the State against the Individual, and yet the soul that emerges resilient through it. Love the powerful aesthetics and elements of traditional Russian religion and culture he conveyed also. As it’s set in Medieval, rather than Soviet auspices.

Beautiful film in many ways. If you need a good dvd of it Criterion probably has the best (though no BluRay yet)...

Yep, produced in 1966 in a totalitarian state.... How come he didn’t perish in Gulag? /s

It was not Stalin times but yes still Soviet indeed: Tarkovsky did die in exile...Paris or Sweden.

“” “” It was not Stalin times but yes still Soviet indeed””” “

Here comes your consistency again. From your posting history Stalin still lives within ‘Putin regime’ /s.

Yes Stalin enjoys more popularity now than in the latter years of the USSR.

Hence why “Death of Stalin” was banned from further screening.
