I am absolutely floored by the depiction of what happened that is being given in this miniseries. As a kid in high school, I remember this happening. I even live in Texas. I remember watching the news conferences and even watched it burn live on t.v. I am not naive enough to believe the official ATF accounts, but holy cow. The portrayal of the raid is absolutely BRUTAL in showing how the ATF attacked without provocation. I literally cannot believe that the Hollywierd types allowed this to be produced in this way, since they love to lump all religious people (except moslems, of course) as a bunch of gun crazy fanatics.
Bill Cooper never backed down. That’s for certain.
Remember the political cartoon with fireman holding the child’s corpse, thinking, “Damn talk radio,” and how the real fireman called in to Rush and said, “Nothing could be further from the truth. I’m a Dittohead!”?

Look into PatCon and reports of secondary and tertiary charges found in the building, if you haven’t already.

David Koresh was a NUT, but it is not against the law to be a NUT in this country”
I have thought of that quote many times in the last 25 years.
After watching last night I did some research because it was different than I recall. It appears they are lifting versions of the story from both sides of the account.
If found the account of shooting the dogs at the start interesting.
I recall thinking the whole thing was overkill at the time.
Don’t forget that Larry Potts, the HRT Director at the time, suspended all rules of engagement, which led to Horiuchi taking a shot that NO sniper would ever take. I had two FBI agents, as well as an INS agent, a Deputy US Marshal and a DEA agent working for me at the time. When I told them that, even in a combat zone, had an Army sniper caused the death of a noncombatant by taking an ill-advised shot, he would be court-martialed. The FBI agents went ballistic until the DEA agent - also a firearms instructor - said, “He’s absolutely right.”
As I understood it at the time, the funding for the ATF’s private army was being threatened in budget cuts so they put on a show to justify their existence.
The local sheriff afterwards was quite vocal that he’d told the feds he knew David Koresh and could have him come in any time. They also knew his habits; he was jogging outside of the compound at certain times and could’ve been picked up then.
While the OKC bombing was particularly horrible for the children killed (in some kind of daycare there), as I understand it more children were murdered in Waco.

I’m watching the drama. Saw the first part of the doc. ill watch the rest of the doc next month. Too much for me to watch both at the same time.
I came here to see what you all say about the show’s accuracy. It is horrible. How much is true? Did Koresh first come out unarmed? I remember being told that there were children being abused, etc. Nothing like that is shown on this show.

Waco, Madman or Messiah on A&E is also running. I am going to compare stories. The reports of child abuse were supposedly old rumors, and Reno use them to justify her approval. The show implies it was not true. He was however having sex with all the women and had I think 12 kids. Last night his mother the actress said she was the grandmother pos 12 inside the compound. The other woman says, are you David’s mother?
The split between FBI tactics and negotiations was real and it was described to us by an FBI negotiator. This split wouldn’t occur in local PD where everything was controlled by the local commander. The FBI commander is portrayed a s controlling and blocking the negotiator and tactical leader from communicating directly. Also the tactical director is portrayed as not appreciating negotiations.
I was surprised when i heard about it before because the FBI practically invented hostage negotiations and trained a lot of PD s around the country.
THAT is REALITY. The Clinton’s and that beatch Janet should rot in hell. No, the Clinton’s will skate, until they rot.
The show seems pretty fair. The Branch Davidians are portrayed as a fringe group and the ATF are portrayed as publicity hounds while the FBI are portrayed as hyper-aggressive authoritarians bent on vengeance against people who dared to withstand the onslaught of a violent, murderous government agency.
