Amen. I know there was plenty in my family. Nobody's perfect...even me.
We had a family brawl at a summer bbq at my mother’s house about 15 years back. Uncles, brothers and cousins swinging for the fences. I was smack dab in the middle... Not my proudest moment. Needless to say, my mom doesn’t do the bbq’s anymore.
There was plenty of ‘dysfunction’ going on in my family back when I was a child, in the 1950s-1960s.
The difference is that so many problems today seem to be the product of deliberate destruction of culture - not just the failures of individual parents.
It’s hard for parents to fight against all of the cultural influences, when their kids are in public schools all day, farmed-out to daycare even in the earliest and most formative years, and with so few full-time moms at home.
Only individuals can solve these problems. It can’t be left to schools and government.
I don’t know what has gone on in Sarah’s home, and I’m not going to judge any individual; I just know that it’s an incredible fight for ANY parent, today.
