My Mother passed away

Posted on 02/16/2018 9:49:06 AM PST by husky ed

Wednesday was my Mom’s 92 birthday.
The past two weeks she has been very sick. I took her to the hospital on the 5th, as she didn’t feel well.
They said that there was really nothing they could do for her. She was transferred to the Hospice House on Wednesday.

Things would get better than worse. I sat with her all night for her birthday. At 7am Thursday she took her last breath.

I want to thank everyone here for their support.

Ed

Sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Mine passed in 1990 at the age of 69. My Dad predeceased her 12 years earlier. I’m the last one left of four children. My second oldest sister passed on her birthday, September 2, 2011 at the age of 69. We all believed that she was holding out so she wouldn’t be younger than our mother was when she passed. Then again, knowing my sisters sense of humor, we felt that she waited until the 2nd to die so she’d end up getting her August Social Security check.

"She was the definition of a mother, and I know that she passed through the gates of Heaven that second her last breath left her body and met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Then truly, this is a cause for celebration. My grandmother recently passed away on Christmas Eve 2018 at the age of 108. When I was informed, I experienced a profound sense of happiness for her, even while at the same time feeling a sadness and the thought of missing her presence.

My sincere condolences to you and yours.

I am so sorry for your loss, Ed.

Wow, she lived a long life. And had a son like you. I wish for the same and my sons being as great as you were to your mom. Blessings to you as you mourn.

Your last birthday present to her—your time—was a precious one. As your mother, she knew, and now knows “in full” of your love. Cherish that!

Prayers for you Ed. Its a great blessing for a son to be present at the passing of his parent(s). I hope that she knew that you were there, sitting with her.

Ed...I am so sorry for your loss.

What a comfort, though...you were with her when she passed. I was blessed to have been able to be with my own Mom when she passed away in January, 2015. (My Dad...only a year later, in July 2016...it was a tough couple of years for my brothers and me...and our own families). Along with myself, were several other family members, and I am so happy that it turned out that several of us could be there. We sang a couple of hymns (my Mother was a church organist for almost 50 years). Anyway, as the hospital chaplain said to me, right after she passed away...what a comfort it must have been for your Mom to hear her daughter sing “Jesus Loves Me”, as she was welcomed into Jesus’ arms. I do like to think that Mom did hear me sing that to her...the very first song she taught me, when I was just a very young little girl.

Losing a mother is much more difficult than I ever imagined it would be. I knew that it would be difficult, but until it happens, one really has no idea just how deep that “Mother/Child” bond can be. That first year was especially difficult. “The Year of Firsts”, I’ve heard it referred to...her first birthday after her passing, my own birthday after her passing...the first Christmas after her passing...all those types of things. And...when our third grandson was born...the first person I wanted to call was my Mom...but then I realized...I couldn’t. But she knew...She knew.

There is nothing quite like that of a mother’s love.

The deeper we love, the harder we grieve.

It is my prayer that you will be able to hold on to warm memories and the good times with your mother. It does alter you...I still miss my Mom so very much, but now, instead of crying every time I think of her or hear her name...I am able to smile much more. But still, sometimes even the smallest thing...a song, a scent, a memory...anything...can bring on a tear or two. I still miss her, but I have learned how to go on living without her. And, my faith tells me that I will see her, once again, one day...in eternity.

Be assured of my utmost thoughts and prayers.

I’m so sorry. I had a similar experience with my mom and understand what you’ve been through. Take care of yourself.

That saved a wretch
Like me.
I once was lost
But now am found
Was blind but
Now I see.

So sorry for your loss, Ed.
God rest the soul of your dear Mom.
