Don’t forget Gloria Allred with a dozen women claiming Mr. Smith was a sexual predator.

YEA! Thank you. I have been thinking about this movie lately. I will be losing TCM soon because of some garbage that Spectrum is doing. They are far worse than Time Warner had been.

Those were the days also when even a few scoundrels had a conscience, as the one in this movie, who repented in public, in shame, before a full senate house (and then fled the senate floor to commit suicide).

Today, it is hate unto death.

I watched it again. The whole thing from start to finish. I am more disillusioned now than ever. Why? NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE 1936. The government is just as corrupt as ever and men are just as evil only the names and the methods have changed.

The movie is available at Archive.org for some reason and for how long I don’t know.

https://archive.org/details/MrSmithGoesToWashington1939480x360

My wife had Gov. Mary Fallon [another perfectly bad waste of good air and space, a has been washed up aging once upon a time someone that looked and smelled good enough to get noticed] giving the state of the state of Oklahoma address. That to has never changed either: Never enough money, need to raise taxes, teachers need raises. Nothing ever changes in this state either. I’ve heard all these complaints and whining from as early as I can remember and that has been more than 50 years as an adult.

Writers write, talkers talk and politicians politic. If nobody reads, listen or believes / needs they are all just as useless as they really are.

I have seen it all and nothing at the core of the onion ever gets better. It is all rotten and stinks.

Thankfully you’re wrong. The poison of this movie is the control of information through the newspaper. Those days are over.

Just an FYI, HBO / Cinemax are free this weekend on U-Verse.

Haven’t paid for HBO in years and don’t plan to ever again.

So far I’m recording Wonder Woman. LOL

No LOL. I was just happy That I watched Liberty Valance this year after many years of holding off. Lee Marvin was awesome being a bad guy for a change but I kinda felt bad for the Duke. I think this is the only movie where he “died” but not on-screen and giving up the girl..

I am a huge Capra fan

This movie was originally going to be a sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies, “Mr. Deeds goes to town”

Duke died in the Cowboys.

Yep, Liberty Valence is a real classic. When you see the gun barrel in the ally... you instantly know.

I mean, when Jimmy kills Liberty, it is as implausible as when Tom Hanks blows up the tank in private Ryan with his .45 auto — then you see “the rest of the story”.

When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

Had to really coerce my GF to watch it with me. I initially kinda “lied” there was romance in it (just by looking at the images) and she looked at me “yeah right”. After the movie. she was choked up and mentioned John Wayne gave up the woman of his dreams bec. he knew she had a better future with Stoddard.

and one last thing I noticed. It was a young Lee Van Cleef as one of Liberty (Lee Marvin’s) henchmen.

Yes, the cast was great. It is a classic. Has a genuine moral.

How many kids today need a moral to carry a movie. They see so many villains get away with their theft or heist, they have no clue they are bad guys anymore.

Back in the day, an audience would have stormed the screen rather than see a bad guy profit from his crimes. It was right around 1970 when the anti-hero arose (thanks again Commies!) and the bad guys could profit from their crimes.

Old Italian Job — bad guys look like their spoils will elude them.
New Italian Job — they recover their spoils and live like Kinds.

Old Ocean’s 11 — their money burns up in the crematorium.
New Ocean’s 11 — they profit and live like Kings.

No audience before 1970 would tolerate bad guys profiting from their ill gotten gains. Even in 1968’s Thomas Crown Affair, Steve McQueen returns the priceless painting because he is doing it just for the thrill, not for the money.

And people under 30 try to tell me America has exprienced no moral decay and that you don’t need to be Christian to be moral.

It is worse today. I don’t think FBI and DOJ were thoroughly corrupt in 1936.

I like the twist in the end. I said “so it wasn’t Ransom Stoddard who killed LV? Wow.”
