When I was a young person I threw out a bunch of old stuff my mother had hung on to. One thing was a ropey chain made out of some strange material that had gold clasps on each enda watch fob. My grandfather owned a pocket watch and apparently this ratty old fob had belonged to him. Only later did I realize it was woven from my grandmother's hair.
