All a person has to do is run a stout skewer type implement through a stack - in the space for your candidate-lets say a dem.
If the person voted for dem, it has no impact. If the person voted for Rep. then the ballot is spoiled with two votes and will be discarded.
They just have to be able to do that without someone else who would object seeing it.
