On March 14, 2016 Charles Shi filed a whistleblower complaint with the FAA alleging substandard materials and processes were used by a Chinese manufacturer to produce parts intended for Boeing aircraft.
A spokesperson for Shis former employer, Moog Inc., said the parts in question were tested and determined to meet specifications. Moog used to make top quality automotive steering and suspension parts.
I'm not sure how good their reputation is nowadays.

Inspector General Says FAA Not Doing Enough to Stop Bogus Parts from Getting on Commercial Flights I hope the IG actually said "Commercial Aircraft", not "Commercial Flights".

Incompetence if not downright malfeasance.
Anyone FIRED? Demoted? Hell, had this year’s bonus nulled?
And, when the next crash aftermath is sifted through and the parts tracked back, FAA will go, “Oops! We’ll work harder (to not get caught next time).”

OEM parts are hideously expensive and are thus a huge profit maker for the OEMs. The temptation for repair facilities to buy a 59 cent bolt at the hardware store rather than the 50 dollar OEM bolt must be pretty great. In most cases the 59 cent bolt will work just fine - not everything on a plane is critical to flight after all.
