*shrug* It's a LOT more painful than it sounds.

Besides making insulin the pancreas secretes powerful digestive enzymes to break down proteins and fats.

I had a gallstone block the duct, my pancreas swelled up like a balloon and ruptured, dumping those raw corrosive enzymes into my gut.

Not every day you get to watch the paramedics work on you from the ceiling.

Morphine is good...

I had the experience once of Ray visiting our location, once was enough, he had astronomical standards.

It must have been about 1977 or so that he visited the store I was working at. It was a surprise. I had no idea who he was, but I was supposed to be mopping the front area and my manager was standing next to an older guy. I mopped near them and my manager snapped at me about doing that someplace else. The old man turned on him and read him the riot act about encouraging and supporting young men who were willing to work for a living.

It wasn't until afterwards that I was told who the old man was and how badly I embarrassed my manager. Makes me smile 40 years later.

"Oh, my wife will be happy to know that I should be eating more snapper."

I wonder what it tastes like with a good dollop of bacon grease?

Your dog will get pancreatitis. Count on it.

I started doing this with my dogs about 40 years ago on the advice of a vet. None of the dogs I've owned has ever had pancreatitis.

When I was a teenager my mother rendered chicken fat and kept a jar in the fridge. I took chicken fat sandwiches (schmaltz) to school. Just delicious. A few years ago I had an angiogram because the Dr. saw a shadow on a stress test film. I swore it was all the fat. Turns out my arteries were perfect. My mom is almost is almost 100!

Many years ago I had a buddy who would ingest about 3 tbsp of olive oil before heading out for an evening of drinking alcohol.

Mmmm! Made with lard! I grab a bag whenever I get really lonely for the taste of my grandmother's pie crust, which was always made with lard.

They have them at the Dollar Tree for less than at the grocery.

I was talking about dogs.

But I have seen several patients, one very young, die of pancreatitis and it does kill humans as well.

I don’t doubt it! I’m convinced that without the morphine I would have gone into shock (maybe I did?) and died.
