For pity’s sake Hollywood, spare me your virtue-signalling nonsense at the Oscar (tr)
Daily Mail ^ | March 1, 2018 | Piers Morgan

The Oscars are just three days away and I’m beginning to sink into a mind-crushing stupor of dread at what lies ahead of us.

Hollywood’s awards season has deteriorated into an endless round of virtue-signalling, hypocritical bullsh*t as the planet’s most infamously ill-behaved town pretends to be outraged by its own immorality.

We’ve had the black dresses, the white ribbons, the furious red carpet rages and the weepy podium speeches.

None of it has been about movies; all of it has been about actors competing with each other for the coveted title of Best Victim.

Now they’re excitedly preparing for the big one… the Academy Awards – a chance to scale new heights of ridiculous self-aggrandising preaching to the billion people watching around the world.

How did we reach such a ridiculous state of affairs?

The first Oscars ceremony was held in Hollywood in 1929 in front of just 270 people.

Fifteen statuettes were awarded, and the entire thing lasted 15 minutes. Everyone who won an award was thrilled to see their work as an actor recognised by their peer group. None of them made any speeches about political issues.

By contrast, last year’s Oscars was held in front of 3,400 people, saw 24 awards presented, went on for 3 hours 49 minutes and included the biggest array of political statements in the show’s history.

What are the odds that the stars will demand gun control while the event is guarded by armed security?

Ha, ha. Near 100% I'd say.

So is Piers Morgan trying to get back into US media after being so ignominiously booted by Ben Shapiro ?

I’m so glad that I still have the freedom not to watch.

The Oscars ceremony is when Hollywood liberals arrive in limousines 30 feet long, step out in $50,000 dresses wearing $1,000,000 worth of jewelry. Then they go inside and lecture that conservatives are using too much of the earth’s recourses and then pretend that perversion is normal.

I wouldn’t watch the Oscars if you put a gun to my head.

Seriously I haven't watched the awards since 'Unforgiven" won.

We will see if the Hollywood idiots can resist taking shots at Trump , the NRA, etc see if they push me too, black lives matter, global warming, etc. And use their half assed political statements to take shots at Trump all night long.

I would expect that the Hollywood idiots can’t resist their political tirades. Stay tuned.

Hey remember how the Oscars were 60 years ago. The winners spent so much time thanking everyone from the producer and director to the man who pumps gas at the filling station to the man who swept the floors to the window cleaner to the man who hauled off the trash, that it eventually got boring.
On night I had on the radio at the same time and we found out who had won BEST PICTURE an hour before it was announced on TV.

Haven’t watched Oscars since 1976.

"...award shows..."

I can never remember the difference between the Oscars, the Emmys, and the Grammys.
I never watch any of those shows or know when they’re on, so I am apparently not their target audience.

I used to enjoy the Oscars, corny as they were, for their marks in human achievement. Great films always left me in awe.

Most of the films now seem soulless. It was the PC, and obsession with feminism/LGBT/BLM that finally did it for me.

Won’t watch.

My great-grandma used to watch to see the dresses, I suppose. It being on the TV at those times is the most I’ve ever seen of them. It seemed embarrassing to me about 20 years ago when the webmaster of a site I used to visit was saying, “My father’s list of predicted winners was more right than mine, but I’ll get ‘em next year!” Metrosexual father/son bonding.
