Gowdy Says Another Special Counsel 'May Be Unavoidable'
Town Hall ^ | 3/5/2018 | Leah Barkoukis

Rep. Trey Gowdy, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman, said Sunday a second special counsel to look into the Department of Justice and FBI’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation and possible collusion between President Trump and Russia during the 2016 presidential election may be necessary.

“Over the weekend, I’d counted up almost two dozen witnesses that the inspector general would not have access to, were he alone conducting this investigation, so I think we’re trending perhaps towards another special counsel because of this unique fact pattern and the fact that there are witnesses outside the reach of the inspector general,” Gowdy told Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Bartiromo then asked the South Carolina Republican to confirm whether he believes a second special counsel is necessary.

“How does one investigate itself frankly?” she asked.

“Well you don’t. I wish that I had been able to grade my own papers in college and law school, but I was not able to. I would have done better first of all, but–we don’t put family members on the jury. We don’t put friends on the jury,” Gowdy replied.

“You need an independent arbiter, and the Department of Justice cannot investigate itself. Horowitz can– Horowitz is a fair guy, but when there are two dozen witnesses that have left the department or worked for another agency, someone else has to do it and I am reluctant to call for special counsel, but I think it may be unavoidable in this fact pattern.”

The comments come on the heels of reports that the Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, will likely criticize former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for reportedly approving an improper leak about the Clinton probe to The Wall Street Journal in 2016, in a highly-anticipated report that began more than a year ago and is expected to be released in the coming weeks. (Fox News)

“I want to know everything that happened in 2016 and whether Andy McCabe was leaking for or against Hillary Clinton,” Gowdy said, referencing the report. “I think it’s important for all of us to know.”

IN BEFORE IT’S NEWS!

(Seville, Spain) ~ Confirming striking behavioral similarities, a team of researchers at Ancestry.com have announced the discovery of the direct lineage between America’s Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the 15th-century’s Tomás de Torquemada, Grand Inquisitor of Spain.

(Washington D.C). ~ In the absence of any evidence of Russian collusion, and with the cameras rolling, Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his Grand Jury are redefining “mission creep” by desperately casting around faster than Jimmy Houston on a rainy day.

Is anyone keeping any eye on hilLIARy and obama? what are they doing each day?

HilLIARy should have had a lot more time to run the “Clinton Foundation” and help people... instead it closed down when she lost. How weird.

“May be unavoidable” how’s that for resolute. And who will appoint them Magoo, Rosensweasel? Rush is trashing the idea because it will take so long. So FISAgate drifts into the wind.

This “special council” Bullshit is reall getting old. Bunch of musty-eyed politicians in a circle jerk because they don’t know how to do the job they were elected for. The longer Trump lets this crap fester, the quicker the American public will come to believe he is in the same category.

Special Council, my Ass.

Heinrich “Gestapo” Mueller seems like a more viable ancestor to me.

Wake me when it happens. In fact, when anything substantive happens to hold the Dems to account.

Actually Trump wants a Special Counsel appointed. What he’s against is handing it off to the IG...where investigations [against Democrats] go to die.

They need to appoint one now. The Dems are counting on the fact that if there is no independent counsel then they can shut down the investigation if they retake control.

Congress can't prosecute. The IG can't prosecute. Sessions won't prosecute. Rosenstein shouldn't prosecute.

Who on earth would you recommend should do the prosecutions?

Now if you want to criticize Congress about something, criticize their likely lack of support for Trump, if Trump were to fire Sessions and Rosenstein.

Sessions is waiting, waiting, waiting as long as possible to allow the DOJ/FBI/IC swamp to destroy as many records as possible in the ordinary course of business to make it harder for any eventual special counsel to locate and recover incriminating text messages, emails and other evidence.

Legislative committees are glorified IGs. They investigate but can do nothing with the results of their findings of criminal activity other than refer them to the executive branch. I believe we will see Gowdy in the role of
SC before much longer.

The so-called attorney general, Jeff ( Rip Van Sessions). AG in name only.
