My first one was a toy that recorded black&white on a audio tape cassette!...and you maybe got better quality pictures than I did with my ancient rig - but back in the day it allowed me to get some priceless shots and sound of my parents, sibs and young daughter that of course I'd never be able to replace with the best equipment available today.....

With the ease of use, improved picture quality, and relatively low price of today’s cameras I wouldn’t even bother trying to rehabilitate something from any more than a few years ago - would probably cost much more than it was worth......

Q.-----What is your ultimate goal? To shoot video to watch, unedited, on your home TV or to make YouTube or presentation videos for groups?

A-----The latter. Thanks for your interest.

With that answer you left the $60 video camera niche. More important than resolution is quality of color rendition across a broad range of lighting conditions. Cheap cams will show dark shadow areas and dim lighting with large swaths of blocks with little gradation.

Bottom line , don't buy a no name camera without having handled one in your hand and seen its output on a screen the same size as you would use in presentations.

Scan the offerings on Amazon, paying particular attention to the Q&A and reviews. This will give you a realistic feel for what is available within your budget and intended use. Bad video presentations can sink you even if what you're selling, idea or product, is sterling.

It comes with 2 rechargeable batteries.

But it does not say it record while charging,as the Sunlea does, while as regards Action Cams, look at this one with 4.5 out of 5 stars 2,807 customer reviews:

FITFORT Action Camera 4K WiFi Ultra HD Waterproof Sport Camera 2 Inch LCD Screen 12MP 170 Degree Wide Angle 2 Rechargeable 1050mAh Batteries Free Travel Bag Include 19 Accessories Kits

【100% 4K HD Action Camera】: Provides 4K/25FPS, 2.7K/30FPS, 1080P/60FPS, 1080P/30FPS and 720P/120FPS Video Resolution. 12MP Image Resolution & 170 Super Wide Angle Lens Delivers Skip-Free HD Video and Accurately Capture Every Epic View And Exciting Moment For You .

【Sufficient Power Supply】: Comes With 2 Rechargeable 1050mAh Battery(one in the camera, one in the box) Enables Continuous Recording Without Worry. Supports Up To 90 Minutes Recording For Each Battery.

And excerpts from the answers section: 2 3/8 " wide; 1 " deep (add 1/4" for lens thickness); 1 5/8" tall... records while charging. you charge the camera's battery and/or power the camera through the USB port . The longest record time is 320 Minutes if you choose 720P 60fps w/ a 32gb micro sd card in it, but a 64gb card CLASS 10 speed rating will work. The speed rating is very important to action camera. it has a time lapse mode.. Make sure the rear screen isn't staying on when you are filming. I get somewhere around 1 to 1.5 hours per battery. I tried the 1080 p bit the file size was huge. it doesn't include the micro SD card. It comes with a USB charging cable. adapter micro usb to aux connector.

When you charge, the blue and red light will be turn on in the same time. ,when you charge it ,the blue lights will turn on ,when you record, the red lights will turn on. Now the blue light is out ,it shows that it is fully charged You can get a couple extra batteries and a stand-alone USB charger as a free gift after you receive the camera. It t records sound. You need set up it on your settings. In the camera there is a "sound indicator" option ,choose it and you will see "volume" option ,adjust the volume to 3. remove the waterproof case when you want to record sound And it has a good quality and also has speakers. you can connect a mic to it via a adapter micro usb to aux connector.

If you plug the camera in via USB on your computer, it will show up as a flash drive. Alternatively, you can take out the microSD and use an adapter and an SD card reader to access it directly.

Turn on the camera, you can choose video resolution, press the select button then you will see 1080p(60fps),1080p(30fps),4k(25fps), then use the down button to select it. loop setting can be set to automatically overwrite and record over the old video. Press three times Power/mode to enter into Setup menu; Then select Loop recording by pressing Up/Down button. The time lapse is:2s, 3s,5s,10s,20s,30s,60s. In daylight, the videos are really nice (really, really nice). Once you start losing light, then yes, the picture becomes grainy. it takes photos, but it still will have the "fish eye" lens look to them. 4k is barely watchable with the 25fps, 1080p at 60fps is butter! can't turn off the "fishbowl" effect of photos and/or videos. ________________

Reading this makes me wary of poor video quality in less than full light, plus loss of detail due to fish bowl effect.

Thanks, but why do people then buy camcorders?

I've always wondered why they buy cauliflower!

Which is best?

Uh...

...don't let 'best' trip you up.

Features can be easy or hard to use; yet still are equal in the final product.

Actually holding the product in your hands can answer a lot of your questions; even some you've not thought of before.

And actually USING a product will bring quite a clarity to the picture.

Beware of just reading specs.

Way back (when I still had hair) I designed a chip into a circuit just from the specs alone.

Turns out the specs were true; just NOT at the same TIME!

High speed?

Yup!!

Waveform purity?

Yup

WHAT??!!??

That's supposed to be a SQUARE WAVE?

I'm about to sew a pocket on a kite that will hold my old cell phone.

I want to get pictures of my property with a bit more resolution than GoogleEarth® gives me.

The answer is, they don’t. Most people are now shooting video on their new generation cell phones.

Yup.

I have two of the old ones sitting on a shelf in the bedroom closet.

I’ll bet you; like me; have LOADS of stuff that ought to be transferred to new technology, but have just not gotten around to it.

Beware of just reading specs.

Thanks for the Ad-vice! Indeed. I am blessed to have built a PC using a ASRock 970 Extreme 4, mobo, a 4.2ghz 4-core AMD 4350 cpu, and 16gb ram, running W/10 pro (which cost 29.99 by way of upgrades from XP) on a SSD HD (plus a sata) but while pretty fast, and able to run with 5 browsers open, with over 400 tabs total, and a dozen documents (no games though, or malware), i thought it would be faster. Cheap (35.00) GPU likely is bottlenecking. But complain, no, thank God, who enabled me to get it thru someone, unasked.

Did you realize that a lot of movie quality video is done with SLR Cameras? The cinematic quality of the new breed of SLRs far exceeds what you can get with even a high end video camera.

I see SLR = single-lens reflex. Such info is why i asked FReepers.

Keep an open mind and try a few different things before settling on a particular type of equipment.

Yes, those SLRs are more expensive, but it all depends what level we need.

Well, as far as reviews, if they can be believed, are very high for the models I showed, but the audio is scorned. I could try the 55.00 Sunlea which supports recording while charging, and doubles as a web came, but does not support HDMI output. It supports TV output through AV cable.
