It should be remembered that in the 2009 Elections, Hillary won the DNC superdelegates. When they asked her to hand it over to Barry, she did but she kept her delegates.

The point of the Delegates is to make sure that a flat-out communist doesn’t get the nomination. It was really done in response to what happened to Henry Wallace, as I recall.

Henry Wallace almost destroyed the party, AND he was “too left”. As an FDR VP he was a totally communist shill. He cost the party quite a bit.

And that’s the thing. The superdelegates prevent something like that happening again. But now they WANT something like that to happen again.

I like the superdelegates. It codifies the dems elitism and makes sure their nominee is a nutball.

I have an alternative proposal for the Dems.

Go ahead and have your primaries and caucuses.

Then take a look at the age of the elected and chosen delegates.

If the majority are less than eighty years old then re-instate the super-delegate rule so the octogenarians can have their rightful place as rulers of your party restored.

Keep the octos on stand-by for service as needed!

This was originally put in to stop far lefty candidates because the party was so wacked out.

I remember hearing that this is the case, but can't remember the candidate that made them adopt this policy.
Anyone know?

This first original wackjob was McGovern, but really by the early 80s, the dems had a problem with far lefties out of touch with Americans. The rise of SF politicians was a big factor too (Pelosi, Feinstein, etc.).

I think so, we may be. It was intended to stop the Howard Dean’s and Bernies, as well as a few others. However, its glaring when Bernie carried 22 states in the primaries and came out of states like MI and had less delegates.
