Marriage is a sham. You make vows but don’t really have to honor them. Who signs a contract that can be cancelled by either party at any time? And what man wants to sign that contract where he’s likely to be paying money to her if things go bad?

Marriage is a 3-way contract as the State has inserted itself into the deal.

only the guy has to honor the marriage contract. if he breaks it no one tells him you go, guy! and asks the woman, what she did wrong. if she cheats, its girl power and collect half his cash and prizes, at least, get the kids and more cash and prizes. its a one sided contract. 80% of divorce is filed by women, they all see the vows as nonbinding.

In my ceremony, I made a promise, “To be unto thee, a faithful and loving husband, as long as we both shall live.”

You know, I never really think about it, but the promise stands.

Re-criminalize adultery and get rid of no-fault divorce. That and reducing or eliminating welfare would ensure that marriage once again becomes more like the covenant that it was meant to be.

Excellent reminder of an aspect the article missed, but alluded to in the divorce rates.

No-fault divorce.
Prior to no-fault divorce, the marriage contract was BINDING. People needed a compelling reason for a judge to allow breaking that contract, such as abandonment or cheating. Now it is just “I don’t love you anymore”, or the old irreconcilable differences.

What that does is allow for tire-kicking by women, especially where they earn less than the husband. It gives them an opportunity to marry a guy on a trial basis and if it doesn’t work out, they can get out instantly with some alimony to boot. Especially since so many people now “plan children” and want to enjoy a few years of childless marriage together before having them.
