An actors' union is calling for on-set observers to monitor all sex scenes for major Hollywood films.

The move, triggered by the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal, is part of a new code of conduct from the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, which represents more than 160,000 actors in the US.

The union, SAG-AFTRA, produced a detailed seven-page guide that aims to tackle workplace sexual harassment in films, TV shows and commercials.

>> I have yet to say “best sex scene ever” in any movie I watch.

Roger Ebert only gave Summer Lovers (1982) 2 stars but on Siskel and Ebert in the late 80s or early 90s he listed it among his 5 guilty pleasures.

Well, Casablanca needs to be colorized, don’t forget. Digitally enhanced with scenes in color AND recast with people of color.

But yeah, a sex scene and some hip hop and dubstep-EDM to sell it to the hip young audiences.

>>Perfect example of sex scenes that are distracting and mess with the flow of the story.

Russ Meyer was the director who paved the way for nudity in movies in America. His early “nudie cuties” in the 50s are like longer form versions of Benny Hill sketches (the character(s) could see but not touch the ‘living pin-up’).

Before Russ’ landmark lawsuits, nudity was largely confined to nudist camp ‘documentaries’ (nudge nudge wink wink). He paved the way for nudity for the sake of nudity (in adults only films, no genitalia, and no penetration).

He said that hardcore films ruined “the game” (so did David Friedman, who’d worked in promotions for the major studios before going off as one of the producers/distributors/etc for the other ‘independent’ cinema). Their reasons were that they could count on audiences (mostly male) returning next week if they thought they might see something next time that they didn’t see this week. Also Russ said that the mechanics of hardcore sex took the audience out of involvement/interest in the story.

Both eventually made films with explicit sex but largely retired from making films by the early 70s. David Friedman was the salesman who came up with “XXX”. It was an ad campaign “too much sex for just one X”. It wasn’t any kind of review board that came up with it, it was a con.

But I have a better suggestion. Why not eliminate all nudity and sex scenes?

I would love that as replacing the sex and nudity with great acting will create more in the viewer's imagination than anything on film.

They heard about the bump stock ban and figured they could do something to resolve their MeToo problem that is just as closely related as that.

Porky’s had the best shower scene and Halloween 2 the best hot tub in a hospital scene.

Not change the subject, but your profile about the relationship sounds EXACTLY like someone I had a relationship with who is a member here too, if they are not the same person, they must be twins.
