An actors' union is calling for on-set observers to monitor all sex scenes for major Hollywood films.

The move, triggered by the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal, is part of a new code of conduct from the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, which represents more than 160,000 actors in the US.

The union, SAG-AFTRA, produced a detailed seven-page guide that aims to tackle workplace sexual harassment in films, TV shows and commercials.

I like Outlander on STARZ, but the explicit sex scenes really bug me.

Same here. Perfect example of sex scenes that are distracting and mess with the flow of the story.

Question: how did people enjoy films in the 1940s and 50s? Was it possible? When I grew up in the 70s and 80s filmmakers felt they had to include every moment of the sex films. I feel it’s a bit uncomfortable. Since they had to throw sex into each film, you could be with your family or strangers at someone’s home watching a great film and all of a sudden you are watching people thrust and orgasm. It’s AWKWARD in these settings. How did anyone have any idea what happened, back in the 50s, when the screen went black after the kiss and suddenly it was the next morning? Without naked actors moaning, how could the film audience know what might have happened?? Lol.

See? I have no problem with lovers hooking up in a film but we don’t have to see it. The characters probably go to the bathroom too but I feel I can stipulate to it without needing to see every swipe of the tp.

I don’t remember the sex scenes in Bambi. Were there any interspecies scenes or was it all buck on doe?

You know there are some scenes where the actors have admitted years later it was pretty much the real thing.

Exactly. Did anyone see Casablanca and not know Ingrid and Humphrey must have hooked up back in Paris? Anyone??? And yet we never had to see them huffing and moaning and slapping bodies.

People didn’t have sex in the 40’s and 50’s so a little suggestive content in movies was titillating.

If there was no sex in the 40s and 50s how did you make all those baby boomers? ;)

Distract from the tempo? Hell, they bring the story to a screeching halt! Just show the two kissing, the old darkened profiles stripping off, then fade to the undergarments strewn across the floor the next morning. We get it, they just had sex. Now get back to the story!

These women think the tissue between their legs are the crown jewels. Get over yourselves, ladies.

Babies came from the Sears catalogue. At least that’s what my parents told me, and they wouldn’t lie.

Citizen Kane, All About Eve, The Quiet Man

And yet, it's known that the characters had sex with one another. You don't have to see them doing it to know that it happened.

Gee you’re right. It was obvious the critic slept with and owned Eve at the end.

The Kanes had a child.

The Quiet Man, well they finally did after the big fight scene i’m sure lol

Actually we got along just fine without the overt sex scenes back until 1968 when in the anti-violence hysteria, movie companies said they would “police themselves” with a joke of a ratings system. After that they reshot scenes to add blood and guts along with lots of total nudity to grab the coveted “R” rating.

Soon movie posters were proclaiming their movie was ...”SO BOLD IT HAD TO BE RATED “XXX”!

My point exactly ... their having sex wasn’t a big point.

***The move, triggered by the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal,***

And I thought all this came out in the movie THE LONELY LADY with Pia Zidora back in the 1980s, where she “sleeps” her way to the top.
