Astronaut Scott Kelly Now Has Different DNA Than His Identical Twin Brother After One Year In Space
CBS4 Denver ^ | 3-14-2018 | CBS Staff

Posted on 03/14/2018 5:10:38 PM PDT by goldendelicious

“Scott’s telomeres (endcaps of chromosomes that shorten as one ages) actually became significantly longer in space,” NASA researchers wrote in a statement. The space agency added that Kelly had hundreds of “space genes” activated by the year-long flight which reportedly altered the astronaut’s “immune system, DNA repair, bone formation networks, hypoxia, and hypercapnia.”

While Scott Kelly’s height and 93 percent of his DNA returned to normal after returning to Earth, NASA confirmed that seven percent of his genes have remained changed and may stay that way. “This is thought to be from the stresses of space travel, which can cause changes in a cell’s biological pathways and ejection of DNA and RNA,” researchers added.

Poor poor Lamarck, finally validated so long after Darwin got all the goodies.

Latest info might indicate genetic closeness at about 70 to 85 percent. It really depends how they measure similarities...faster and better techniques might show even more variation...Note: I have heard humans and bananas share 50% of their genes...

We are designed to adapt. And it happens much faster then people want to believe.

That "Junk DNA" is not junk but your body's tool kit for building whatever you need to adapt to your environment.

There’s a 25-percent chance each he’ll have the power to stretch, turn invisible, flame on, or turn into a pile of rocks, with a 100-percent chance of flopping at the box office.

Oh, my. Here we have proof of why Mars is not only a fantasy, but one-way trip, and somehow they found a way to turn this into a feel-good story about twins and “space genes.”

Nice. /s

NASA at work. Neither was he in “space” nor was he in zero-g. Outer space is outside our Van Allen belt and true zero-g is not orbiting at speeds which keep the station from crashing.

At one time I truly believed they were accomplishing something as pioneers, but when NASA started propagandizing and sacrificing astronauts, it was all over for me.

This is more of the same.
