Readers' Poll: The 10 Worst Songs of the 1980s
rolling stone ^ | 10/6/2011 | Andy Greene

A few weeks ago we asked our readers to vote for their least favorite songs from the 1990s, so it was the obvious next move to dial it back 10 years and see what you guys hated in the 1980s. The results are sure to infuriate a lot of people. For the record, I personally disagree with most of these selections. In fact, I love a lot of these songs...

10. Rick Astley - 'Never Gonna Give You Up'...

9. Taco - 'Puttin' On The Ritz'...

8. Toni Basil - 'Mickey'...

7. Bobby McFerrin - 'Don't Worry Be Happy'...

6. Falco - 'Rock Me Amadeus'...

5. Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance'...

4. Wham! - 'Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)'....

3. Chris de Burgh - 'Lady In Red'....

2. Europe - 'The Final Countdown'...

1. Starship - 'We Built This City'...

I would have put Kim Carnes “Betty Davis Eyes” on the list. It hurts listening to the pain her throat must be in as she croaks that song.

More like they were purged from everyone who grew up in the 80s memories by the Hair Band Revolution......

...like they didn’t even exist.....

That was an AWESOME list of songs. Love them all.

I miss Robert Palmer so much! What a talent. Gone too soon. :( I can’t think of a song of his that I DON’T love.

No, I meant the first album or two after Gabriel left when Collins took over the lead vox. "Trick" and "Wind" were still great. Invisible Touch? Not so much.

How many of today's snowflakes would get a severe case of butt-hurt if a band released a single titled Illegal Alien in this day and age?!

“Eileen” is a great song to shop to. They always play it in markets and you can get a lot done faster, plus it lifts your spirits. It should be mandatory in SPROUTS market.

Agree. “Bette Davis Eyes” only suitable for play in hell and gitmo.

“Careless Whisper” by George Michael.

No. I loved that song. I got busted cheating on my boyfriend and I felt every word of that guilt in the song. Great song.

Just reading that pie chart makes me want to dump him. Probably a clinging wuss.

Oh yeah, and “I Ain’t Gonna Play Sun City”.

Forgot about that. That song made me feel so guilty because my company was owned by South Africans.

No! ‘Jack and and Diane” was a great song! There is a country song right now as a homage to it too.

I love Boys of Summer. I was pretty sure it was written about me; probably every girl thought it was about her. Great mood / aura created by that song.

At the Grammys (I think) a month or so ago, Sting sang his “I’m an Alien, I’m a legal Alien” song IN SOLIDARITY WITH ILLEGALS. Proving your point.
