Agreed. Videos killed the radio stars in the 1980s.

Oh God, Jack and Diane, I smashed a radio playing that song once, it was just the most retarded song I ever heard in my life. Power chords then this stupid “Deet deet” sound, then this mess of gibberish then the middle part that doesn’t fit at all, sounds like a completely different song as if he mixed up tapes by accident, oh man I hated that songs so much, it was just so utterly DUH, retarded, low IQ garbage and of course it was a “hit” played over and over and over on the radio until your head exploded

I kept looking at the links to make sure I wasn’t going to get Rick Rolled.

Does anybody else s’ local radio stations now bleep out the word “faggot” when playing this song? All Charleston SC stations have for the last couple of years.

Sorry. But you know, Rock n Me, Take the Money and Run, and the rest of that dreck was the beginning of really, really bad pop music. It’s when the industry figured out people would listen to ANYTHING.

“Susannah Hoffs can sing anything she wants!”

Yes. She could sing “Obama is my fuhrer thou all shall want” and I’d seriously consider the lyrics as gospel. OK ... kidding there ... or maybe not ... I don’t know. :-P

“The 50s & 60s were the prime music years for me, but I remember Dire Straits from the early 80s. The rest, not so much.”

In the same boat here...that’s my frame of reference. However, in subsequent decades there was some very good stuff....and a lot of crap. I don’t have an iota of a clue of pop music from about the mid 90’s on and care less. I am a music lover and always go back to the older stuff...when America was still America. Ditto for England.

Agree about "Werewolves of London" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart", but disagree about "Centerfold."

I like "Centerfold."

Thanks, yes - Total eclipse of the heart wass on my list.

I had a list of my top 5 stored somewhere, I’m getting closer to recompiling.

Su Su Sudio
Total Eclipse of the Heart
Final Countdown
Eye of the Tiger

Mine tend to fall into the category of god awful, but pushed by the label.

"They stopped making good music after 1979."

Hardly. There is much great music in the 80s and the 90s were a brilliant era, comparable to the 60s.

Anyone that says good music stopped before the 80s or 90s is just a fuddy duddy.

Speaking of Phil Collins, I'd like to add A Groovy Kind of Love.

I remember my mom catching Sussudio on either MTV or the radio and asking me, "what does that mean?". I had no idea, and apparently, neither did Phil Collins since he claimed he made up the word.

I was a huge Genesis fan growing up (mostly the PG-era) but didn't mind the first album or two when it was fronted by Phil .. or even some of his early solo stuff. Once he came out with "Groovy", I was outta there, for both him and Genesis.
