In the fifth century Saint Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland and drove the snakes out of the Emerald Isle. Fifteen centuries later we celebrate his memory with green milkshakes, green beer, and, if you mix the two, green vomit. Oh yeah, and parades. They’ve been celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in America since the 1700s and as the saying goes; everyone’s a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Well, except for Italians and the Scottish, that is.

Before becoming presidents and late night talk show hosts, the Irish faced prejudice as one of America’s first immigrant groups. And like others denied the benefits of “The American Dream,” crime offered opportunities for advancement. Fortunately, Americans love a good gangster.

I don't know anything about Decider.com. I think it is an entertainment news site. Regardless I thought this was a pretty good list.

Being a born and raised Bostonian I can highly recommend “Black Mass”,the true story of one of the filthiest psychopaths this country’s ever produced...”Whitey” Bulger. And to add extra fun he’s the brother of Billy Bulger, once the most powerful politician in Massachusetts and who, curiously enough,is also a psychopath.

I would recommend reading the book before the movie but the movie was pretty good.

And will scare the living pants off one— he was one vile POS and apparently.....ding, ding.... an FBI informant on top of all that.

The other movie with Nicholson as a “bulger” character- matt damon and leo decaprio (just.. whyyyyy this little wimp)— that one is twisty turny as well and also fairly scary and fast moving. Medieval.

Of those, I’ve seen numbers 1, 2, 4, 8, 9 and 10.

Gangs of New York, Departed (the best film I’ve seen in the past 2 decades), Road to Perdition were all great movies.

State of Grace was definitely worth the watch.

Miller’s Crossing was booooring.

Goodfellas doesn’t count because it’s too much of a stretch to consider it an Irish movie. If you did, you would then have to consider Godfathers 1 and 2, because Tom Hagen was part Irish.

Tom Hagen was part Irish, but he was a lawyer and not a wise guy like Henry Hill (as well as I remember). Tom wasn’t an actual mobster.

Another quasi-Irish mob movie was “Absence of Malice” in which Paul Newman played Frank Gallagher, who was thought by the FBI to be involved in mob activities.

9. Goodfellas (because Henry Hill was half-Irish)

And because Jimmy Burke,it's said, was entirely Irish.
