The FBI and ATF (among other federal agencies) have done this type of operation for years. It gives them cases to successfully “solve” and therefore justifies their budgets and staffing. Deaths of a few Americans don’t bother these despicable feds at all.

Like the guy they caught on camera running in the woods after leaving the Sandy Hook incident who they captured and was never heard of again...
