I use Pale Moon for nearly everything. At least 99% of the time. Every once in a while I am forced by some website to use IE or chrome. Why bother with Firefox?
Older versions of Firefox are better than the more recent versions.
What version are you using ? Current is 59.0.1
To check for a faulty extension, you’d need to go through your list and disable them one at a time and test to see if functionality resumes. Time consuming but it’s about the only way to test extensions.
It’s probably pausing while it logs in to NSA.
FF Has been doing some updates lately, just yesterday. They download in the background and sometimes it slows waaaaay down while it’s doing it.............
There are a lot of respected add-ons which mitigate these problems. Three complementary add-ons which work well together are HTTPSeverywhere, Privacy Badger, and NoScript. There is a bit of a learning curve with NoScript because it allows selective blocking of annoying scripts.
Other useful add-ons would be an ad blocker such as uBlock Origin or Ad Block Plus.
By the way, Free Republic is about the cleanest straight-up website you will ever find. FR is devoid of this crap, and is a real throwback to the early honest days the Web.
I hate to go against the FR grain, but I’ve found Chrome to be far faster than Firefox these days. I have both Chrome and Firefox on two computers and Firefox has become a real pig on both over time. It takes forever to load and it takes forever to load a page, and that’s with the Ghostery ad blocker clearing a path.
The problem I’ve had with Firefox Quantum is the tabs keep crashing
Get rid of Firefox and go with Google. Google sucks but at least everything works.
The Gov is right in #9. Those more techy might like FF because it IDs all the crap it encounters, which might slow it depending on how it’s configured.
Something like Ghostery and ad blockers can give a count. A TV station web site I check uses over 20 trackers and a dozen ads just for starters. I use NoScript for that very reason. I turn off scripts by default and add what I need. Not everyone is willing to learn which scripts do which.
We boycott FF here on FR because they fired the conservative executive who didnt want anything to do with their faggot policies.
I hate Google too as well, but it serves its purpose..
Insufficient information. What Device are you using? What operating system is on device? One person mentioned FireFox may be updating. That is its default setting. However mobile devices should rarely, maybe never, be set to auto-update.
If you like Firefox, I’d suggest checking out Comodo’s IceDragon:

Since about last month Firefox on our family computer would cause it to crash every time we opened Firefox.
We (actually my husband) reinstalled Windows 10, updated it, and then tried to run Firefox again and it did the same thing. So we removed it and installed Chrome and now things are fine.
It sounds like a preflight TSA security loop delay. Type “round robin” after your entry.
can’t help you there. but the guy who started Mozilla/Firefox who was fired because he didn’t support homosexual fake marriage went on and started a new browser called BRAVE.
The thing is great because it blocks ads. you go straight to content. I love it.
Pale Moon got even worse.
I switched to Comodo Ice Dragon.
It's the same platform as Firefox and Pale Moon but up to date and works better (for me):
I use Pale Moon. When mine does it, I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and open the task manager. From there, I close Pale moon, then restart. A single window opens asking if I want to re-open all of my previous browser windows.
Then I go through all of the browser windows to find the one that’s causing the loop. Usually, it’s the one I most recently opened.
Either I remove the check mark next to that window, or I open it and quickly right click the problem browser window and hit, “Stop.”
I think it’s caused by multiple Java items firing up from all of the ads. A real PITA!
I gave up that POS software several years ago.
I use it occasionally to have another browser for stuff, but every other time I use it, it wants to go through a complete update.
I classify it under "scumware" now.
