Just call your friends and let them know that you are stepping away from social networks.
“Facebook isn’t going away”
Looks like it roots have spread out. From the Trib article.
“For some, having a robust social media presence is a professional necessity. Seven out of 10 employers use social media to screen candidates before hiring, according to a survey conducted in early 2017 on behalf of CareerBuilder.”
An enduringly effective way to keep track of former lovers.
It takes some time but you can scrub your Facebook. Download Google Chrome, it comes with a Social Book Post Manager. And follow the directions. I am in the process of scrubbing my Facebook account before deleting it.
That’s what I did. My ‘data’ is absolute absurdity, on its face. Facebook is great for litigation purposes though. The amount of indiscretion is truly staggering.
#NEVERHADAFAKEBOOKACCOUNT
I have deleted my once fun FB account. It stopped being fun when I was stalked. I deleted it and am grateful. I am on FB now with a false name. That works as I have posted nothing of a personal nature. I am receiving messages from scientific type people who are interested in subjects I am interested in. This works well.
“Is this for real? Do friends and family really freak out if you quit Fakebooking?”
In a word, “yes”. I deleted my first account after allowing myself to get sucked into a running political argument with a friend who had strong leftist opinions that she felt compelled to share. I got disgusted & closed my account for a few months. After I set ground-rules for myself I rejoined. Far fewer ‘friends’ this time. Had the small pleasure of refusing a friend-request from that individual. I heard that she posted a rant about that. Hehe!
If you go back to facebook and sign in all your stuff will be there, FB will ask you whether you want it back
Did you have to provide a different email? I used to enjoy keeping up with friends, until the 2016 election and the left completely ruined FB for me. Now I only use it to see what a few family members are up to. I haven’t posted in almost 2 years. It took me a while, but I finally realized what an invasion of privacy it was. FB knows more about me than I know about myself...well, sort of.
On top of all the privacy issues, I constantly got the feeling that everyone there has a FB persona, meaning what they show is kinda fake. It’s like the media. They show what they want the world to think or know of them. I did it, too. It just started to seem very fake to me. I couldn’t take it anymore.
As I said, I really only use it to peek in on others, to see how they’re doing, in case they’re not comfortable telling me personally. I still haven’t gotten over how people will use FB basically as a diary, and their entries are very personal. I would never want anyone to read my diary.
